📢School Safety Issues in the Parking Lots! 🛑

Attention Cal Aero Families, ✈

Regarding North and South Gate Parking Lots, we will be strictly reinforcing our arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure the safety of all our Aviator students. Based on our observations and parent reports, some drivers are abandoning their vehicles and blocking traffic while other drivers are appropriately waiting to pick up and drop off their students. This is causing a back up of traffic and conflict between parents in the parking lot, which poses a safety concern for students for a variety of reasons. More importantly, cars are driving way too fast in the parking lot and NOT obeying the traffic procedures that we have put in place. YOU MUST WAIT YOUR TURN IN THE CAR LANE! Student safety is our first priority, and it takes every driver following directions to create a safe environment for our Aviators.

Therefore, we have the following urgent issues that need to be resolved immediately for student safety: 🚗
 
 Parents, if you are in your car in the DROP OFF LANE, do NOT leave your car; students will be able to walk directly to your car if you are waiting in line in the DROP OFF LANE and keep the flow of traffic going. 

1. Parents, if you are in the PASSING LANE/NO STOPPING LANE, please be mindful of students crossing with their parents before SLOWLY proceeding through the parking lot.
2. Parents, NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO CROSS WITHOUT AN ADULT; DO NOT call or motion to your student to cross into the parking lot; students can only use the sidewalks to safely walk to your car in the absence of an adult.
3. Parents, your child must use the sidewalks to exit the school safely if they are walking home or to your parked car located outside of the parking lot.
4. All staff members directing traffic on behalf of student safety are to be treated with respect and courtesy.
5. All cars driving in the parking lot MUST abide by the parking lot expectations, thereby, safeguarding our students. 

Please note that these procedures are conducive to a safe environment on behalf of our students and will enable all parents to visibly see their student(s) at the end of the day and keep our Aviators safe at all times.

 Also, students in 4th grade and above are allowed to ride their bikes/scooters/wheels to school only if they have a helmet. Please ensure you are following district and school policies to ensure the safety of our students and to avoid your child from being cited.
